Hi all,

Been putting in a LOT of hours this week–trying to keep up with the scheduled work AND continue to press on with preparations for an engine change. Everything is going as well as can be expected, so I can’t complain.

UV mapping went well for the station exterior, and it’s all ready to go for its upcoming texture pass. I guess the two biggest bits of news for this week though (and unexpected as well) are that I have both the Razor Hydra AND Oculus Rift SDK (software development kit) libraries linked and initializing. I can detect if a Hydra and/or Rift are connected to the system. If so then obviously there will be available options to make use of them. If not, then I deactivate the systems and I’ll hide the options in the UI so there’s no confusion.

Getting everything to compile and initialize is the key. Once you have that, it’s pretty straight-forward to detect what’s connected. From there its just a matter of getting the data from each device every cycle and making use of it. So, I am VERY confident both of these devices will be supported for the first Alpha release.

I’m pretty excited about this. I really think with RogSys they will work well on their own AND in conjunction with each other. BUT, they are going to require a lot of testing and feedback to really nail their implementation. The sooner they are in and working the better…

Otherwise, since I’m deep into the guts of the code, I decided to take a good look at my memory management. I found a few things that could be handled better and knocked out a few potential memory leaks in the process. That’s always good news.

And that’s about it for this week. Oh, almost forgot–Tim (over at ISI) has been working here and there on a new website for RogSys. I am NOT a great web designer by any stretch (know thyself) and I’ve never been happy with the current site. He’s not doing anything fancy, but it will be much cleaner and sharper looking. Hopefully information will be easier to find. I’m hoping he’ll have that ready in the next week or so…

With that, it’s back to work I go. Still need to put in another hour or two before bed….
