DCIRogue System
Dev Entry 6/26/13

Hi all,

Well, let’s start with, “I have good news, and bad news…”

First, the bad news. After completing about 50% of the Orbital Station exterior model it became quite apparent that the 2D concept simply was not translating to 3D well. Sadly, it happens sometimes. So, rather than trying to force a bad design I scrapped the entire concept and started from scratch.

I now have a new concept that I’ll begin modeling today. I actually like the new concept more, so actually this probably happened for the best :)

And now, the good news. My Oculus Rift developer’s kit arrived yesterday (took a QUICK shot of the case with my phone).

After a quick review of the documentation adding support for it to RogSys should be no trouble. I WILL need to reorganize a few items in the rendering process, but it shouldn’t be a major overhaul by any means. So, again, I will do my best to include Rift support with the first test release. I must say, for a developer unit (they’re still finalizing the consumer version from what I understand) it’s very well constructed.

HOTAS and clickable cockpit will be mandatory since you can’t see a thing, so making sure the clickable cockpit works flawlessly will be a priority.

And that’s about it for this one. Just wanted to put up a quick update. Take it easy, everyone :)
